It’s been a day when all I’ve done in the real, concrete world of art, is to cut a piece of paper to size, since I finally got my paper delivery. But, in the world of imagination…
I was with my friend today, who lamented the lack of something crafty to do, for fun, and maybe to give as gifts. Always an instigator, I suggested a trip to the craft store, to just see what’s out there…
Come to a book on Rock Art…no, I’m not talking about posters for Led Zeppelin or anything like that. I’m talking painting on rocks.
Which led me to telling my friend about a group, here, called “Danbury Rocks”, The idea is to decorate rocks, and place them around the city for people to find, just to give those people a bit of happiness in this dull, drab world.
So, the idea took hold with my friend, and I decided to join in, too…and then
IT HIT ME! No, not a rock.
My old Namaste series. I had so much fun doing it, but the size and bulk of it, meant that they weren’t really feasible as artwork, unless I was someone already famous, like Damian Hirst (perish the thought). So, I was looking for a way to put it on something smaller, three dimensional…I was thinking of boxes, or something like that…
Flash forward to today, and rocks! Yes, it would work!
So, soon I will be painting rocks a la the Namaste series and spreading them around the area. In the meantime, I’ll still be doing my colored pencil work…the rocks are for pure fun.
For those who don’t remember the Namaste series, here are a few examples:
