I tend to include diversity of people in my work. I guess that’s because I live in the most diverse county in the country, Queens, NY. That’s my world. So I was a little surprised when looking for copy for this drawing…all the bike riders I found were white!
I discussed this with my contact, and he said, originally, MS was thought only to affect people of European descent, although now it is known it affects other groups, too. So, I guess that’s the reason there are so many whites in these pix.
Well, here’s the first WIP, and I’m making everyone white….except I screwed up the fellow on the far left. I may make him another ethic group to cover up. So, I’ve shared a dirty little creative secret of mine.
Sourcing photos for my website is tough. When I’m looking for stock images of people, I am able to find non-whites with just a little effort. But if I want a photo that features hands, or eyes, or other body parts — they’re almost all white! I wonder why no one at the photo stock company put that together
I was specifically looking at MS bike ride photos. Have you tried taking a stock photo, tinkering with it, cropping hands, etc…putting into something like photoshop and enlarging it?
But what I really wanted to say is that I really like where Roxy’s piece is going. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Thanks, Greg, that means a lot to me.
