As I’ve started to do these projects, I realize paradise can mean a lot of things to different people. I’m sure for sports fans, a football stadium can be a paradise. I’m not going to do a stadium, but I am going to be more open minded about what a paradise is. Actually, I tried doing a drawing of the old Yankee Stadium, but it was a lot of work, and my heart really wasn’t in it.
So finally, here’s the big version of “Tree Top Paradise”. I added birds, it was too stark without them. I also think birds are a peaceful addition.
This reminds me of a story when I was a girl, maybe about seven. We were making pictures in our class with crayons. I was much dismayed when the boy across from me was coloring the sky purple. I criticized him, told him the sky is blue. The teacher stepped in, and said the sky could be many colors, including purple. Well, I was quiet, and figured the teacher was just trying to make the boy feel better. After all, everyone knows the sky is blue!
So here I am, fifty years later, drawing purple skies.
