I guess this is what I’m doing these days

Sometimes, I surprise myself.  Sometimes, I’m surprised that I surprise myself.  I thought the line of drawing styles went neatly from A to B to C, and so forth.  I’m wrong.

I did a drawing of a sky.  I thought it would turn out like this:

Much to my surprise, it didn’t.  Am I using the word “surprises” too many times?

That’s how I thought I did skies.  I realize now that I’ve strayed from my idea of a sky many times.

Such as:

I also did this:

And this:

So, I did a loopty loop, started out at A, went to D, and then, somehow ended up at C.

This drawing of a sky looks quite a bit like the one I just showed you.

Which reminds me of this, which I did a little while ago, and declared a failure.  Looking at it again, I like it better than I did.

So, I’ve been doing loose scratchy lines and curliecues.

I guess that’s what I’m doing these days.

Missed the Boat…

Every so often, I do something that, to me, is unacceptable.  In other words I….fail. Usually I don’t redo the ones that miss the mark, but this time I will.

The featured picture is probably the best of the tries I made of this idea.  I did it when I was painting with acrylic, rhinestones and glitter.  I kind of miss doing that! I’m thinking of doing some more small ones, as a sideline.

Here’s another example.

However, it didn’t quite do it.

Here’s another example:

PEEKINGTHROUGHAnd this.

WILDSTRAWBERRIES

Yet another good drawing, but damned failure at what I was attempting to do.

THECAMPUSSo, there I go again.  Making the best of my failures (in my regular life, too.)  Maybe this time I will finally, finally get it!  Or maybe not.

Even Endless Comes to an End

So, I’ve been working…okay, intermittently working on this drawing.  I was rapt about the possibilities I could use to render the abstract shapes in the leaves.  I must admit, I thoroughly enjoyed doing this picture.  No doldrums, no boredom, I was on a roll.  But all good things (and yes, bad things) come to an end.  And so I’ve completed this yet nameless drawing.  I’m hoping for the light to break through to my mind with the title, the way the light breaks through the trees.

If only I could add the sound of hot weather insects….

“It’s Been a Long, Cold, Lonely Winter….”

Everyone is familiar with “Here Comes the Sun” by George Harrison.  I was, however, introduced to the song through this cover:

Peter Tosch….Here Comes the Sun

It was an anthem of a very beautiful spring.

Anyway, back to the present.  It feels as if it’s been a long winter, but it hasn’t.  In fact, the temperature has been unseasonably warm up until a few days ago.  But it has been dark and cloudy.  So, here’s a sketch, done for a change on a blank note card, since I’m out of paper until I get my supply in.

I’m hoping that the cards my sell, whereas the little matted sketches did not.  I’m being true to myself, I’m coming up with inexpensive products from my artwork, that I can sell, rather than slave in retail selling someone else’s.

Oh, my New Year’s resolution?  For my artwork?  I plan to slow down and work more carefully.  In the past, I would do version after version of a drawing until I got it just right.  I’m not going to go back to that painstaking process, but I have been rushing, and I’m realizing my work is getting sloppier.  So, more care.

I’m trying to make something similar to this, that I did years ago, but in a more subtle style.
