The Bronx is up……….

Yes, I promised birds…………BUT.

I changed my mind again.

I found the files of old work, which was this woman’s treasure.  There’s a lot of stuff that I don’t think I put on this blog…was on my old Blogger Blog that still exists somewhere in the vast Universe of the internet, probably.  Maybe not, and I don’t give a……… something to do with a rat’s backside.

For instance this:

Turns out I like it..wasn’t sure it was any good when I painted it.  I did this when I was living in NYC, and missed nature.

I’ve got a lot of nature here.  Somehow, when I do a drawing of it, I feel a need to put in a hint of humanity …..20170712_1412102893307260327462880.jpg

or else I get mighty bored.  Remember me ranting about foliage?

So, sometimes I still think about New York City and wonder if I was happier there.  Mixed feelings, six of one, and half a dozen about the other.  I still wonder though.

It seems my artwork though, has gotten weaker, since I moved here.  The NYC work seems bolder.

VIEW FROM LONG ISLAND CITY, BY ROXANNE

Anyway…..I’m changing my mind again…..here’s my latest bird.  Which is also taken from a NYC theme.  Not to mention, it’s also a spring picture.  How’s that for three in one?

Blackout !

“I’ve seen the lights go out on Broadway,

I’ve seen the Empire State laid low.”    – Billy Joel

Right now, Rose Garden is going slowly.  It’s through no fault of my own, but pet owners will understand.  Pumpkin has taken up a new sleeping spot, right behind my easel.   It’s a choice between letting Pumpkin sleep peacefully, or get artwork done.  You can probably guess my priority.

So, I’ve been paying attention to the news.  Along with Hurricane Barry, it seems that Manhattan has had another blackout.  I’ve lived through a couple of those. Sure, there are big crises, there are also a lot of little crises.  That’s part of living in a big city.

New York Skyline

This is an ode to New Yorkers.  They gang together during times of crisis, but most are not very friendly.  I think it’s a matter of personal space.  If I can’t have it in literal 3D dimensions, at least I can keep my emotions clear.

I can give examples of being pulled out of bad situations by strange New Yorkers, only to be met by gruffness afterwards.

So again begs the question ….did I do the right thing leaving NYC?  I’ve come to the final conclusion, it just doesn’t matter.  I am in Connecticut now, and unless I suddenly am flooded with wealth, I can go back to New York City.  So, end of dilemma, I must make the most happy, successful life here.

So, here’s to old new beginnings:

It Mocks Me!

It happens every year about this time…the view from my living room window mocks me.  The leaves fall, revealing one of the most beautiful, famous scenes anywhere.  Something I’ve tried and tried again to capture.  The Manhattan skyline.

It mocks me.

Some of my failures:

I must do this scene justice before I die.  Otherwise, my troubled soul will wander the Outer Boroughs of New York City.

The Idea That Would Not Die…

I finished the self-portrait in very little time.  I thought it would take several days, and I would fill in with humorous, anecdotal experience with my portraiture education and professional portraiture stories.  Like the blond boy with glasses who requested I make him look like Fonzi.  If you don’t know who Fonzi is, you have my admiration.

So, here’s the self-portrait.  Plan to use it as  a logo, sample, etc.

So, now what?  I really should be getting ready for this designer/art fair, but there’s not a lot to do until some items I ordered arrive.  With a hint of fall chilliness in the air, I’m returning to the IDEA THAT WOULD NOT DIE.
