Not for Sale

My wrist is getting better, and I am savoring (More like salivating over) the prospect doing artwork again.  Yes, in a little more than a week, my cast will be off. A little physical therapy, and I’ll be good to go.

After that announcement, I want to know…are you tired of blogs (including mine), trying to sell you something?  Well, I’m going to put a reverse on that, and show you what you can’t have at any price.

This is my cat, Pumpkin.  Not for sale, because, damn, it’s Pumpkin!

I gave this to a friend.

This one, because I’ll be damned if I know where it is.

This was given to a different friend as a house warming gift. Boy, did my bf get pissed I did that. But, he never told me he liked it!

I bartered this one for energy healing sessions.  BF was pissed about that, too. In all seriousness, if I had known it was so special to him, I would have bartered something else.

I finally learned my lesson.  BF loves it. Not for sale

This one I bartered for an art show in a coffeehouse in Manhattan. Yes, exhibit space is so competitive, you have to give some kind of exchange for even a coffeehouse show.

This one I lost by default, because I left it at a gallery too long after the show was over. we didn’t have a car back then. i always meant to make arrangements to pick it up, but time went by faster than I realized.

One of  my favorites. Given to a friend. I do have reproductions of it.  No reproductions of my friend. She’s one of a kind.

Given to a charity.

Given to charity.

Given to charity

Of course my favorite, and my logo.  And damn! She was my cat Hannako!

There’s more, but that’s it for now. My finger is tired. When the cast comes off, I’ll be able to type normally, again. I’m thankful for that.

Some things take time….and a blast from the past.

In case you were wondering what happened to me the last week or so, I have been busy on this new drawing.  It has a lot of detail, and is time consuming.  I work on it for a while from time to time, but not so intensely that the monotony makes me want to pull my hair out by the dark roots.  It only works as a meditation for a while, and then I get incredibly bored.

So, instead of posting another work in progress on this drawing, I’ll take you back a couple of years on this blog.  The reason why?  I worked as a volunteer at the MS Bike Ride in Connecticut this morning.  For another MS event, I had drawn and donated a picture featuring the MS Bike Ride.  Today, felt a little like being in one of my own drawings.  Deja Vu?  No, Deja Drew.

So, here’s a reprise of that drawing, framed and on display at the silent auction that year.

Oh, and yes…here’s a picture of cookies, because I’m hungry.

Let’s Put It Aside. (Maybe It’ll Look Better in the Morning)

Came to a good stopping place on “King of the Beasts”.  It’s being set aside, I’m going to look at it with a fresh eye in the morning.  It it meets approval, by me of course, I will post it.  If not, it’s back to the drawing board…literally.

So…for now, I’m bringing you…

Taken through the car’s window, it contains the germ of the idea of the next drawing.

So, stay tuned.

BTW, if “King of the Beasts” seems a bit familiar, maybe you’re thinking of what I tend to think of its companion “Tiger in the Jungle”, which I drew almost two years ago.  I donated it, heard that it sold at a silent auction for a botanical garden..never heard for how much.  Not that it matters, I suppose, but I’m kind of curious.

Anyway, another walk down memory lane.

Just what you’ve been waiting to see!

Oooops, wrong picture…that’s my messy easel.  Let’s try it again:

Okay, not t he best photo in the world, it has a hot spot, but at least I try.  Anyway, this is the drawing that’s going into the silent auction.  If you’re in the Connecticut area May 3, stop in….lots of fun for the children, and fun for adults, too.  And you’d be supporting  a good cause.  That’s Pony Rides for a Purpose, the Facebook link is posted in the previous post.

Okay, this is a little anti-climactic, but here’s the preliminary sketch.

Just to mention, it’s snowing here.  AGAIN!

Well, I never did make peace with February……

The finished work I did after the sketch, (the sketch I liked), I felt Eh about.  So, the large work has been put aside for a long, long time.  I may go back to it, but right now, it’s time for other projects.

I mean, after all, February’s over…..which means it’s March…..which means it will soon be spring….which means May will be here before you know it…which means it’ll be time for Pony Rides for a Purpose, a charity I help out.

What this all is leading to, is  that’s it’s time to make another drawing of a winged horse.  Last year, I did this;

And I did a sketch for a logo like this:

So onwards….

Pony Rides for a Purpose

If an artist draws in the forest, and there’s nobody to see, is it art?

Work is coming along on “Floral Overload”.  Right now, there’s not enough further progress to show a work-in-progress.  Nothing new to show, so I’ll show something old.

Something very old…from high school.  I eventually did a very large version as a mural for the school I attended.

Truth is, I’m feeling stuck.  I need to shake things up a bit.  So, I’m looking for a place in the Greater New York City Area to have an art show.  No, I don’t want to pay a big fee upfront, but  a small fee is fine.  Or a commission.  If anyone knows a place…. contact me.

Also going back to doing good with my work….I have accomplished some.  But I realize, I’m still too selfish to just give my art away with no return.  I have a tarnished halo.  Anyway, my work would be very nice in a setting where people would be cheered up.  I’m willing to donate work to such a cause if I get some publicity.

So any ideas or suggesti0ns out there…..

A little diversion

January is coming along fine, despite the fact that it is now, February. What is taking me a lot of time is that for snow, I’m having to do little dots, dots and more dots. Not the big overwhelming kind I did in the original. It is time consuming. While I’m doing this, I’m trying to make it an exercise in mindfulness.

But I took a bit of a break, today, to work on the drawing for my friend’s charity “Pony Rides for Jessica”. You may recall, I started this project for my friend’s daughter’s memorial for a young girl who was slaughtered at the Newtown Massacre in 2012. The idea is to give a chance to underprivileged children to go to horse riding camp.

Here’s where the drawing stands now:

There is an event scheduled for May 4, in which I will be selling items with this image on it. I am considering adding a cloud in the background. I also will be doing quick-sketch portraits, with the money going to this charity, as well as the money from the sale of the items. I’ll keep you posted on details such as time, location.
