Yay for me!

Cycles

This is so exciting to me. A real vote of confidence, and a real shot in the arm.

Of course, since now I am working small, I thought I’d show the small drawing that this is derived from.

I’m proud of them both.

Just to let you know, I was planning to use this time to draw. The cat was in my working space, sleeping.

As always, the cat wins.

But back to the real subject..

Some drawings that are small work out very well……others? They bomb as a big drawing. Just not a powerful enough idea to hold up to the size of the statement. In other words, they bomb as a big drawing. Sort of like dropping a several tiered wedding cake on floor.

I’m not really proud of this. I didn’t even name it. Here’s the sketch:

Sometimes, you have to look squarely at your failures. It keeps it real.

One of the success of mine though, really makes me happy.

This…….

Became this…………..

As for rainbows, here’s another small one:

What I like about this is the simplicity. I don’t think it would hold up as a large piece.

And now, thanks for the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut for giving me the venue in which I sold my work.

And the Accessible Artists show:

A lot of good work there by many artists.

Good afternoon all!  It was a good afternoon, until I coughing.  So, hoping for the best,

In the meantime, I haven’t heard of a virtual contagion of coronavirus, so anyone reading this blog is safe.

But cat lovers rejoice!  Let me remind you that for us, it’s St. Gertrude of Nivelles Day, the Patron Saint of Cats.  Yes, we don’t have to eat corned beef and cabbage, if we don’t want to.  We don’t have to care about snakes, when we have these delightful, purring creatures to celebrate.

So, without further commercial interruption: Cats!

Five by seven inch drawing “Pumpkin”,  Matted to eight by ten inches.

For sale, here.

There’s No Business, like well you know…

Last Saturday was the Danbury Street Fair! In which I participated in as an artist.  I was able to do this on the cheap, without investing hundreds of dollars on equipment. I was breathlessly waiting to take the tent from its case.  I only paid $65 and a trip to Queens, NY, so there would not have been a big monetary loss if it was unusable. But then, I’d be without a tent.  Low and behold, we set it up and it stood as high and as proudly as the American flag on July 4.

As for sales, I only sold three small drawings (one of which was to my sister in law).strawberrystilllife001

It always surprises me what people decide to buy.  A young woman, a cat lover, bought two drawings

And a small version of this one. I did put out this large, full-sized picture, which got a lot of attention.  Cat pictures were the order of the day, including my brother’s cat.

Lots of lookers though.  I’ve done enough of this kind of show not to expect to get rich off the sales.  The main thing was to get my art in front of the public, and have fun.  Yes, some people go on cruises, I do art shows.

It would have been a lot more fun if I hadn’t been fighting the flu with a fever.  That’s another story.

So, now making plans for the next one.  It will probably be in the fall, getting close to the holidays.  With better racks.  I’ll keep you posted.
