I’ve been accepted into the art show of winter themed art, “Winter Wonderland”. It’s going to be at the Botte Shop in Mamaroneck, NY on January 20th 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00. I wish I could be there, but I have to be elsewhere.
The elsewhere I have to be, is the Michael’s Store in Wilton, CT from 11:00am to 3:00pm. They’re having an open house to promote the classes. The good news there, is that I’ve been approved to teach watercolor.
Anyway, despite best intentions, I’ve been having a couple of crazy weeks, timewise, and I haven’t gotten a chance to do any more artwork. So, for no particular reason, here’s a repost of one of my other winter pictures that I haven’t shown for a while.
Around the middle of March.
So, it was one of those deals where the idea for the drawing kept nagging me, and I couldn’t ignore it. I had realized what I had screwed up, so of course…..I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t give it another go. So.
Of course, I had a few rough patches in the process, of the personal life kind. I’m unemployed right now, which makes me a bit stressed out about money. I also had a bad cold, which had me wandering around, medicated, somewhere between sleeping and waking for several days. But then, triumph.
Of course, my Beloved looked at the finished project and said “That’s pretty. What is it?”. I guess it is on the abstract side.
Renamed “Mackerel Sky”.
This is a busy week…stretching the amount of matching frames to get ready for hanging a show on Monday. Talking to someone about sharing a space on the sidewalk to share art. And a good friend coming into stay with us. Lots of baking….
So, I’m going to have to put art on the back burner for a while. And the next project, is something that is a secret.
Okay, remember how I was struggling over the first “Making Peace with January”? I went back to the idea…after first taking a more observant look at the subject matter I was planning to draw, a seagull in front of a mackerel sky. I did the sketch in just a few minutes….easiest thing I’ve done in a long time.
As I mentioned, I have no need for making peace with February…so, I’ll think of a different title for this:
Going to play with the color a little in the sky….so it isn’t so bland…but it’s coming along.
BTW, I’ve put some drawing up on eBay, just go to advanced search and put in my name. If you’d like to see more of my work in general…go to my website at RoxanneBaldwin.com
So, I’m working on “Making Peace with January”. Repetitive work again, therefore, I must take it in small bits because 1. It’s driving me nuts 2. I have no idea where I’m going with this. Did I mention that it’s driving me nuts?
I’ve been having a string of nights when I can’t sleep. I decided to do the most useful thing….work on my drawing. Thing is my studio, when the door is closed and the radiator is going full blast feels like the Sahara. So, I’m in here, drawing, in glorious nudity. TMI? Maybe, and I’m not showing pictures.
What’s driving me nuts again, is a solid space, which would be boring without a trick or two. I seem to have fallen back to a technique I used in high school If it was good enough then, then it’s good enough, now. (At least that’s what I’m telling myself).
So, visit my blog again, and you’ll see this beginning turned into a lovely masterpiece. I can’t wait to see what I’m going to do with it myself.
And of course, if you want to see more of my work, my website is http://roxannebaldwin.com
These winter days are bitter cold. For those of you who may be in the Southern Hemisphere, stop gloating! You’re day will come.
Thank God it’s Monday. I know that may not be popular among people who work Monday through Friday, but I have worked all weekend. I’m off tomorrow and Wednesday. So, I’m being contrary and what else is new?
I didn’t get much time to do artwork….but I am working on Making Peace with January. It features a seagull against a cloudy sky. My mother, who was always tuned into nature said seagulls only come inland when there’s going to be a storm. Her wisdom seems to be true. Again, though, seagulls are one of the few birds that are around here in the winter.
The idea was to have a white outline of a seagull against a cloudy sky. Well, in the sketch I did that….and it turned out horribly depressing looking. My intention is to spread good vibes, so a totally depressing sketch is totally….wrong. So, I quickly did some edges of light coming around the clouds. It’s smudged, it’s dirty, it’s done dirt cheap….but at least it will give you an idea.
I also made the seagull too large….looks like an albatross. More seagull like proportions to come.
