WTH?….or, What Happened Here?

I was going through my old winter drawings, looking for something, damned if I can remember what.  I came across this, which failed in the purpose of a cheerful winter beach.  The figure is alone and looks lonely.  It looks like the mood I had that winter…lonely, blue, and wondering why the heck I’d ever moved from NYC.

Totally, totally wrong. It was meant to be an interpretation of a real event in my life.  The day was cold, but bright and clear.  I was with my then boyfriend, early in our relationship.  The general emotion was that of the excitement of being deeply in love, and being loved back.  That day, that morning was one the most joyful memories of my life.

But this drawing ….looks pretty damned depressing.

The name of this drawing was “Winter Beach”.  While I was drawing the revision I intended to call it “Winter Beach 2”.  My current boyfriend came along and said it was “Two People Looking at a Wave”.  So, here it is:

One of the nice things about not drawing to sell to the market, is that I don’t have to have a distinctive style.  So, I can do what I want, experiment, have fun, and it doesn’t matter.  I can use the technique best suited to the subject matter and make better pictures.  As you can see, this drawing is a lot different than “Heaven”.

I’ve had peaceful experience at ocean shores, as I’m sure many of you have.  I’m hoping to capture that piece in this “Seashore Paradise”.Image
