Not for Sale

My wrist is getting better, and I am savoring (More like salivating over) the prospect doing artwork again.  Yes, in a little more than a week, my cast will be off. A little physical therapy, and I’ll be good to go.

After that announcement, I want to know…are you tired of blogs (including mine), trying to sell you something?  Well, I’m going to put a reverse on that, and show you what you can’t have at any price.

THECATFROMNEWYORKCITY

This is my cat, Pumpkin.  Not for sale, because, damn, it’s Pumpkin!

FREEDOMTOWERINSPRING

I gave this to a friend.

MERRITTPARKWAYFANTASY

This one, because I’ll be damned if I know where it is.

AWESTERNTAO

This was given to a different friend as a house warming gift. Boy, did my bf get pissed I did that. But, he never told me he liked it!

070

I bartered this one for energy healing sessions.  BF was pissed about that, too. In all seriousness, if I had known it was so special to him, I would have bartered something else.

DISCO

I finally learned my lesson.  BF loves it. Not for sale

511

This one I bartered for an art show in a coffeehouse in Manhattan. Yes, exhibit space is so competitive, you have to give some kind of exchange for even a coffeehouse show.

This one I lost by default, because I left it at a gallery too long after the show was over. we didn’t have a car back then. i always meant to make arrangements to pick it up, but time went by faster than I realized.

CLOUDOVERGREENWICH

One of  my favorites. Given to a friend. I do have reproductions of it.  No reproductions of my friend. She’s one of a kind.

EMBRACINGMYINNERCAT

Of course my favorite, and my logo.  And damn! She was my cat Hannako!

There’s more, but that’s it for now. My finger is tired. When the cast comes off, I’ll be able to type normally, again. I’m thankful for that.

Yay! Snow!

Snow is in the forecast for today.  We’re not to get hit as hard as if we were still in New York City, but still a sizable amount.  It’s good day to stay inside and do artwork…as if that wasn’t what I’ve been doing for the past week anyway.  Ah, I love the snow.  It’s so beautiful, if I don’t have to go out in it.  Be safe, all of you in the East.

I did do another cat, a picture of dear Hannako.  Thing is, I meant to do a drawing I could sell, but it looks so much like my little girl, and so much looks like a cat in heaven, that I think I have to hold onto it.  I even put a rainbow in it, for the Rainbow Bridge.  I’m usually not so sentimental about things.  And I’m running out of paper, again.

A Stroll in the Old Neighborhood…

"Guardians"
Guardians

Here I am, being nostalgic again. As we were packing the car with a load of *stuff* to take to the new place, I saw my landlord’s chair, against the stone wall. He’s had it there all the years we lived there, probably many years before, and now….

It got me thinking of how the neighborhood had been good subject matter for my artwork. I didn’t have to go too far for inspiration.

So, for those of you who haven’t seen them, a parting glance of a little street, in a very big city:

A Sad, Personal Note

I haven’t posted for a while, and that’s because my cat and favorite model, Hannako, won’t be with us much longer.  My partner and I have turned our bedroom into a kitty hospice.  Of course, Hannako is a 13 year-old now, which is the average life span for an indoor cat.

In case you aren’t familiar with her, her are some of the works I did of her:  The first on is, Embracing My Inner Cat.  I can’t believe I did that over three years ago.  How time flies.

A recent sketch.

And a photograph:

Please keep good thoughts for Hannako’s passing to be peaceful.  Thanks.

I’d like you to meet a friend…..

And here’s her FB page.

As I was saying…..I was looking for an animal cause for which I can do pet portraits.  I remembered my old high school buddy, Mrs. Dolittle.  She’s a holistic healer for animals, and I’m going to try to raise money for her to give hospice care to pets whose families wouldn’t otherwise afford it.  So,  I’m dividing my time between “Floral Overload”, and making sample pet portraits.

Remember Hannako?

Here she is again.

So, I plan to do another kitty, two doggies, one horsie, and one bunny.  And put them on a postcard to advertise.  The originals will be double matted, as will the finished product sent to customers.

Boy, it feels great to have an actual direction again!

Taking a Break and Rehoming a Tiger

I’ve been working pretty steadily on the project for the college students, and frankly, I’m getting really bored with it.  There’s not too long to go with it, so I decided to take a break and work on the winged foal.   Here’s where it stands:

Cheers to Art

As rehoming a  tiger, do any of you remember “Tiger in the Jungle’, from last summer?  To refresh your memory:

The link above shows where the drawing will be going…..a silent auction to support a children’s garden in Richmond, VA.  I still have small print of “Tiger in the Jungle”, that I will be able to sell.

So, sometimes I feel as if I’m bragging when I find a  way to use my artwork for healing and good.  But then, maybe I’m just taking a little journey, seeing what one little person can do to change the world, however small that change may be.  Welcome to my journey.

Back to normal…..whatever the Hell that is.

Been a busy holiday in retail, and the whole idea of art and healing got kicked to the wayside.  Now, finally,  if the neighbors would finally take down their Christmas lights, it would be over.

Between my readings on Buddhism, and recent events in my life, the topic of change became an overwhelming force in my life in the last few weeks.  That came along with the drawing of the door I promised my friend I would do.  Somehow, the two came together, and ended up in the theme of moving.  Moving to a new residence, relationship, job, whatever, sooner or later,  everyone’s got to move.

Here’s the 5×7 sketch….eager to start work on the finish.

I plan to do a smoother, more finished floor.  This reminds me of something out of an old run down shed.

Oh, yes, and for you Hannako fans…..here’s a pic of  her eating catnip.
