It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like….OH NO!!!

As Summer arrives with the ending days of June, we look forward to the end of the Fiscal Year.   That’s right folks, while you’re enjoying the Fourth of July, and trips to the beach, people in retail are getting ready for the December holidays. Even artists are starting to look for the venues for art/craft shows in November and December.  I am no different.

I’m thinking of doing what is named the Pumpkin Festival, which is a large fair at a local church.  I have a while to think about it.  I’m going to give whatever venue I plan to do, my best shot, with my best moneymaker, which I realize now is hand drawn note cards and holiday cards.  So, that’s that.

I’m working now on note cards, because the weather here went from way too cold and rainy to go out drawing, to too hot and sunny.  So, while taking the trash to the dumpster the other day, I found a sweet surprise in the condo complex.  Wild strawberries!  So, I’ve done one note card, and am working on another.  I may eventually do a large version, like I did this:

And tried to do, this:

Here’s the photo I’m working from, which I like as a photo almost as much as I do a reference for a drawing….

Happy Summer Solstice!

One Day at a Time..and a Way Back Wednesday …

So,I’m off from the day jobs today.  I’m working a lot of hours these day, but unfortunately, not on art.  Today was filled with errands, and an overdue visit with a friend.  Not much time, or for that matter, energy for drawing.

However, a little bit at a time is better than nothing.  I remember giving the advice to someone that I had been given, you can at least do artwork for 15 minutes a day.  If you can have your painting set up in a corner at all times that is probably true, but that’s not really possible for all.  So, do what you can. Even five minutes over a period of time mounts up.

So, that’s what I’m doing..working on the endless possibilities I talked about last post, in periods of a few minutes daily.  The good thing is that I’m always hungry to do more, and I’m not burnt out and tired from having done too much all at once.  For those of you who remember this..it’s a review, for those of you who do not, here’s Floral Overload, in which I had gotten so sick of doing flowers over and over again.  If I had done it in only stretches of five minutes a day, I doubt I would have had that reaction.

Path to…uncertainty.

So (At the risk of sounding redundant), I have finished a drawing, and I don’t know whether I like it or not.  Do you see a common theme running through my posts?  Anyway, as usual, I’ll put it away for a while, work on something else for a while.  Then I’ll come back to it, and redo it. Or not.

Anyway, working as a healer is getting to be more of a reality. I’ve got my massage table, brochure and business cards.  So, all I need are clients.  Technicalities, huh?

Here is..what’s the name of it?  I guess “Path”.20160615_180430

I’m Hiding Something….

I like to hide things in my artwork.  Just about everyone has seen the flowers in this one:

But did you know there’s a cat in this one?

Yes, it’s a very abstract cat. I wanted to put a cat in a window in this, but decided it would take away from the subject matter of the woman holding flowers. So, I hid it.

The fact that I am trying to hide something in “Mud” is keeping me going on the project. Honestly, I’m pretty bored with it, but I am keeping on, just so I don’t fall into inertia with my artwork.  So, I’ll keep on keeping on.

I’m off for a while from my day job! Hurray…but, I’m getting the feeling it’s a good time to look around….

Portrait of the Artist as a Kitten…Stage 2

Okay, progress….I have a title!  Once again, I identify with cats.

As promised, this picture is going to be complex with a lot of preliminary work.  Here’s the next stage:

danburysketchSome of you may recognize it as the front yard of my good friends’ home in Connecticut.  I was going to search through stock images for a good landscape, when I realized I already had the perfect one.

So, soon again, with the next stage.

Down and Dirty

Time to get down and dirty, back to the nitty-gritty, and other last generation cliches….

Wasn’t my art supposed to be about healing?

As I rush around producing merchandise for shows, and feel the angst of the approach of another Christmas Rush in retail….

Something stopped me, and told me to get back to my priorities.

I’ve been saying an affirmation in the morning that compassion and love will guide me, and that I be in alignment with the flow of life.

So maybe it’s time to do affirmations that my artwork is also in alignment with compassion and healing.  So, I will start….in addition to my charity donations.  So, I’m starting another leg of the journey.

Oh, and yes, no holiday drawings yet….but here’s some of my best spring/summer art to bring back good memories….as we approach the winter solstice.
