Happy Halloween, Samhain,….or October 31

Sad to say, I have to take a bit of a break from drawing…I’m having trouble with my thumb due to a repetitive motion injury.  I can’t grasp a pencil very well….but fortunately, I can type one finger at a time.  I can’t let this day go by without some commemoration.

So,  tomorrow is November…for me, a very unpleasant month.  A few years ago, I did a drawing “Making Peace with November”.  So, while I nurse my playing hand, I will leave you with a revisit.

Remember Pumpkin? Throwback Thursday

I can’t share with you what I am working on right now, so, I’m puttering around. We’ve got a cold, wintry mix in Danbury.  So, good news..we managed to recapture our kitty Pumpkin.  As you may recall, we captured him last December, from our former home in New York City.  This past spring, however, the call of the wild got to our little feline transplant..and he ran off.  We found him, but he wasn’t too pleased at the idea of coming back to us..so, we left him, and came every day to feed him in his new environment.  If we tried to grab him, he’d bite, scratch and wiggle away.

So, this day was a good day to convince him to come home.  So, he’s back…here’s the Throwback Thursday drawing of him…The Cat from New York City20151223_150957

To the Rescue

While I was searching through my artwork, deciding what to enter in the show…I came across a drawing I had done in the very late winter, in the March mud.  At the time, I wasn’t sure if I could even draw anything that remotely looked like a landscape.  I had put the drawing aside, thinking it wasn’t so good.

As usual, drawings seem to get better with age.  On second thought, I decided it had some merit…I really liked the tree!

So, here is “Waiting for Spring”…just rescued from the circular file.

Decision ….2016

You will be relieved to know that I am not making a blog post about the current presidential election when I talk about a decision.  As a matter of fact, I’m doing my best to help you keep your mind off it, by giving you something else to think about..so here goes:

I just recently came across a post for a juried art show at the famous Mark Twain Library, in Redding, Connecticut. That’s really just a hop and a jump down the road for me.  It’s been a long time since I’ve done a show, so, I figured…why not?  What have I got to lose but twenty dollars (which is a very reasonable jury fee).

So, then the decision…which drawing?  I looked at the judge’s artwork, very nice, real but idealized still lifes.  So, given that is the type of work she does..what would she look for?

I am going through my work and looking….so here are a few candidates.  Any comments or opinions are very welcome in this.

All the work has to be for sale, so of my other work that you may have seen…yes, I’m open to opinions about them, too, but a lot of them are no longer in my possession or I do not want to sell them.  I also plan to donate one, which will not be judged, so it will be seen no matter.

So, there…didn’t I give you something else to think about?  You’re welcome.

I Miss New York! Well, Not Exactly….

I actually miss Manhattan.  Unfortunately, there was no magic way to teleport from Queens to Manhattan, and vice versa, so I was stuck, along with millions of others…with the subway.  I’ve seen some beautiful artwork romanticizing the subway, but it’s not a romantic memory to me.

But yes, I do miss Manhattan.  It’s the part of New York that songs are written about, movies are filmed in and life is as glamorous as it sounds.  The only way I would move back to New York, is if I could live in a comfortable home in Manhattan, but that takes lots of money and lots of luck.

So, you may wonder, what brought this up now?  It’s autumn, and it’s the time when I remember the sycamore tree out front shedding its leaves, and revealing the beautiful Manhattan Skyline.  So, here’s a memory of those times:

Merry Christmas…..Oh, Wait!

Yes, it’s only October, and Halloween is still a couple of weeks away….but anyone who has a large portion of business in the dreaded fourth quarter, is gearing up for the onslaught.  That is me, for instance, in my day job.  Soon, I’ll be concentrating on my little quick holiday cards..no time for anything else….

But in the meantime, I have been working, sporadically, though it may be.  My late summer/early fall drawing “Black-eyed Susans”.  I have the notion that there is more I should do to it, but I’m not sure what…so I say the heck with it, and present it to you now.

If I don’t get back before then…..Happy Halloween!
